Aslan, Aslan, all hail the big furry squash

In the works, a new film based on The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe:

“Hard on the heels of the success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it has been confirmed that another epic fantasy will be filmed in New Zealand.

New Zealand director Andrew Adamson, the man behind Shrek, will bring to life the C.S Lewis classic The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe with a budget of more than $150 million.”

I can only hope they don’t cast a 16 year old with DD cups as Lucy (the 8 year old). Yeah, we had a wierd high school drama department. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed having a pretty much starring role when we put on a children’s play version of the novel. But I’m really not built to play a pre-pubescent young girl.

Anyway… This could be good. I’ve always loved the story, regardless of the blatantly Christian undertones of the plot. It’s a good book for kids, and I’m sentamental about it (in fact, my first boyfriend once gave me the whole Narnia chronicles for Christmas). And they’ll be filming in New Zealand, so that’s a definite plus. So is the director, “the man behind Shrek”.

The filming begins “next winter”, which, since this was announced in the NZ press, should mean this coming summer (for those of us on this side of the equator).
