"Dirty ears! Hangnails! Snel-frockey! Spit!"

I’m sick.

Very, very sick.

I guess it’s all the rage right now. Very fashionable. Why else would the germ-fairy feel the need to give me this for “christmas”?

So, on Christmas day, I’m visiting with Daddy’s side of the family. They’re all a little wacky, but it was okay. I didn’t stay too late, and managed to have a good time. Except for a little tickle in the back of my throat. And the crazy urge to actually go to sleep at about midnight (5 or 6 hours earlier than usual for me).

Woke up on Friday feeling like crap. My whole body ached, I had a sinus headache from heck (it really could have been worse, it could have been the sinus headache that lasted for 4 weeks). I could barely breathe. And when I coughed, it wasn’t my usual hacking-up-a-lung cough, but instead a very weak I-can-barely-get-enough-air-to-cough cough.

Saturday was more of the same, compounded by the fact that I couldn’t sleep on Friday night because I was too hot (yes, sleeping au naturel without any blankets in December in Minnesota, and I was too hot). You guessed it. Fever. But silly Leora, I was too sick and too tired to move, let alone check my temperature, which had been normal on Friday. By the time I checked it last night it was 100.7 degrees. Who knows how much higher it had been, but at least it wasn’t that high any more.

Today I’m feeling a little better. The fever broke last night (I’ve never before been so happy to wake up freezing in the middle of the night, frantically grabbing for blankets), and the sinus headache is a little less ache-y. I’m still having problems breathing, but I haven’t dropped dead yet from lack of oxygen, so I should be okay until I can make it to the store for some expectorant cough syrup and maybe an over the counter inhaler (I’m sure my bronchi-what’s-its need dilating).

On the bright side, I’ve only had a couple of cigarettes since this thing hit on Friday, so that’s gotta be good for me. Of course, I’m also not really eating either, so hey….

P.S. Brownie points to whoever can figure out where this post’s title came from….
