Maybe Mondays aren’t so bad, afterall…

Oh my god, what a day! Heck, what a weekend!

Today was my first day at my new job. That’s right, a new job. A new real job! The department where I’ve been temping for the past two weeks hired me on permanent. I’m now a gainfully employed Leora, working for the city, earning more than I did at the U, with more opportunity for advancement/growth. It’s really the job I’ve been looking for all these months. I just wish I hadn’t had to wait 6 months to find it. Debts have piled up, not to mention the stress. But the wait is over. I’m employed. I can start paying off my bills again (and my wonderful parents). I can afford to get a few things (like books and a new printer).

Today is also the day that Leora the Sane, my very own little site, was named Minnesota Blog of the day over at Twin Cities Babelogue. And with that comes the lots of traffic. Lots of readers. Lots of people to realize that I haven’t written in a week. D’oh!

Fortunately, the reason that I haven’t written for so long is over. I was a silly Leora this month and forgot the date of the new show at Stonehenge gallery (the gallery where my art was shown in March). Instead of the opening night I expected, May 29th, I had an opening two nights ago, May 22nd. Oops. I spent the week rushing around trying to get everything done on my artwork. But finish it I did. And the opening went very well. E did some spoken word. People said some really nice things about my art. The ‘rents, Ferretwench and J all made it, as did a bunch of E’s friends. It was a much more laidback affair than the last opening, I was able to really relax and enjoy myself. Drop by the gallery any time over the next month and a half if you want to see my work. It’s upstairs from the store, gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday 2-5 PM.

Then, Saturday night after the opening, E and I trekked out to Annandale for A’s birthday bonfire. It was a great party. I got to introduce my sweetie to a bunch of the fest crowd, and I’m prewtty sure that I have finally convinced her of how much crazier they are compared to her friends. No offense to the Macalaster bunch. But she never believed me before when I told her that she didn’t need to apologize for how wierd they were. She believes me now. Unfortunately, she not only got a taste of how… uninhibited my friends can be, she also got to see what kind of drama we have. The less said about that the better. We didn’t get home until 4 AM, exhausted, slightly frazzled and mildly stressed. Is it any suprise we slept almost all day Sunday?

And now, I’m off again. One of E’s best friends from college, Loungeboy, is in town. I’ve seen him for all of about 10 minutes since he got here (since we’ve been so busy), and he’s promised me juicy stories about my lady-love. How could I pass that up?

Until later. A much sooner later than usual. I promise. I also promise pictures from the gallery opening and a sneak peek at what I might be working on for the next show in July.

And yet, somehow, the juicy stories were not so much told. Gee, darn. -E
