When I started this blog, I never thought I’d become an ambassador to all the girls and women who share my name.
Phew. That was a heavy sentence. In truth, I don’t think I have quite that much of an affect on other ‘Leora’s. But over the past few months, I have received a few emails from ‘Leora’s. They have all had kind words for my site, commiserated about our name (and how other people view/pronounce it), even asked advice.
I’ve heard from a Lior in Israel (where the name ‘Leora’ is actually much more common, than here, since it is a Hebrew name. And yes, ‘Lior’ is a variation on the name, much as we have ‘Katherine’, ‘Catherine’, and ‘Kathryn’ here.), a ‘Leora’ in Albania (who is also a pagan), and a high school ‘Leora’ who asked about how I’ve handled people mispronoucing my name.
Unfortunately, my life has been so crazy lately that I haven’t been able to keep in touch with all of them as much as I would like (including the fact that, right after getting an email from one of them today, my program crashed and I lost her email, address and all). Thus is entry. Consider it an attempt at reaching out to all the other ‘Leora’s out there. I know you’re there. I know some of you have found my site, and some of you have actually reached out to me, as well.
So, let’s start talking. Leave a comment on my site. Email me (especially you, Leora from Albania, since I can’t get in touch with you myself right now). We’ll share stories. We’ll chat. We’ll start a mini-’Leora’-sisterhood. It’d be a blast.
Tangent of the day…
Well, not an enormous tangent, but off-topic nonetheless. One year ago today, May 13th, 2004 2003, I started this blog. I can’t say that I never thought it would last this long, because I’ve been committed to and enjoyed this site from the very beginning (or very soon afterwards). But I am amazed at how quickly a year has passed. A lot has changed at Leora the Sane over the past year. I’ve redesigned the site, I’ve moved to my own domain, I’ve added features. I’m really content with the site right now. But content isn’t enough.
So, changes are coming. I hinted at this after Blogger relaunched with their new design and new features. But here it is for real, I will be changing things a lot over the next few weeks. I’ll be switching over to Blogger’s commenting system, changing my archiving system to the new Post Page Archives, and, of course, completing the new redesign I’ve had in the works for the past few months. Or maybe a few of them. I’ve really enjoyed the things I’ve worked on for my web design gig. And there is a lot of work left to do on that. But once I get that in more of a stable place, I’ll spend more time on my own work. And it’ll be cool….
Are you the daughter of my old piano teacher?
I am new at the blog world.
