Hawke, most likely the most brilliant roommate I’ve ever had, is as insightful as ever in his take on Wednesday’s vote.
“What it means is that the GLBT community, its supporters, the Liberal wing of the Democratic party, and everyone of good conscience who supports the basic human rights of all human beings, who believe that civil unions are nothing more than the ‘seperate but equal’ of the 21st century, and those who actually believe that this country should continue to be based upon the writings of John Locke’s ‘Two Treatises on Civil Government’, need to keep working towards a day when marriage is once more about love, and no longer about politics. We cannot let down our gaurds, simply because a pointless vote was decided by an issue completely unrelated to gay rights. We must continue to fight.”
