Death and …

Taxes.

The IRS will tax anything they can. And they’ll rely on the stupidity of…, well, stupid people to do it.

Choice gems from perusing the IRS website. You can’t make this stuff up…

Bribes. If you receive a bribe, include it in your income.

Illegal income. Illegal income, such as money from dealing illegal drugs, must be included in your income on Form 1040, line 21, or on Schedule C or Schedule C-EZ (Form 1040) if from your self-employment activity.

Stolen property. If you steal property, you must report its fair market value in your income in the year you steal it unless in the same year, you return it to its rightful owner.

Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself.

Actually, it was under these tax laws that the government was able to get Al Capone. They arrested him for tax evasion for not claiming his ill-gotten gains, and then from there they were able to pin all sorts of other things on him.

I vaguely remember that when I lived in Illinois, they issed stamps that you were to affix to any illegal drugs you sold…and if you were caught with drugs that didn’t have the stamps on them, they would bust you for tax evasion as well, since the IRS court has that you are guilty until proven innocent.
