I got myself into exquisite corpses about a month ago, at An Exquisite Corpse. It’s a great site, with lots of fun, distrubing and skillful work on it. For those of you who don’t know what an exquisite corpse is, they have a good description at that site. But here’s the basics.
It’s a collaborative artform, where the first artist creates a piece of a certain size, then passes it along. The next artist can only see a small sliver of the bottom of the previous piece, and works with that to create their own “slice” of the whole. Keep it up, and you have four images that merge together into a surreal whole. At best, it’s like Dali: eerie and beaitiful. At worst, well… do you remember those spiral bound books from your childhood, where you flipped to a head, a body and a set of legs, usually resulting in some disjointed monstrously silly thing. You get the idea. The exquiiste corpses at this site are not the worst, that’s for sure.
So, what’s this image at the top of this post. It would have been my latest entry into a “corpse”. But I finished it a few hours late. So, it’s not. However, I really liked it, so I wanted it somewhere.
And there you go….
The baby. Has. No. Eyes.
It is lovely work, though!
