25 Nations

Oh, Bob… how do you do it? How do you write such great pieces so consistently? How do you know how to make me both pissed off at the state of this nation (okay, not that hard) and want to keep up with the news (much, much harder)?

Bob Smith does it again, this time remarking on one of my favorite American conundrums: how the USA went from a nation that was proud to stay out of other’s people problems and wars, to a nation that seems to want to start something with any and every country they can get away with. At one point, Americans really believed that we needed to keep our noses out of everyone else’s business (and not that long ago, either). Now, we’ve become a country full of crazed evngelicals, preaching the wonders of a freedom we don’t really have ourselves.

“We can’t ‘export’ democracy because we don’t HAVE democracy….

We can’t ‘export’ free elections, because WE don’t have free elections.”

So now, there are 25 more countries out there that should be very afraid. If our government misled us about WMDs to get us to invade Iraq, what will it do to get us to invade a few more? What won’t it do?
