A Fabric to Call My Own

Courtesy of Spoonflower, I will soon be the proud owner of two yards of fabric of my own design. I’m kind of giddy about it, actually.

I just got my invite to get a beta account last night, and I spent the evening tweaking one of my knotwork designs into a seamless pattern (which took some time figuring out, but is actually much easier than the amount of time it took me would make it seem).

Swatch of fabric ordered from SpoonflowerA little more tweaking tonight, and some feedback from my darling bride, and I have now placed my first order (see swatch at right, it’ll tile for the full 42″ width and 2 yard length).

Now if only I knew what to make with it….

I’ve got ideas in my head for more large-scale designs, like for a full yard panel, but this design is a much more standard fabric pattern kind of thing. Maybe a purse, maybe a skirt, maybe a pillow. Knowing me, I’ll probably be paralyzed with indecision and never actually make anything. Except with this, I can always order more if I decide I need to make something different, can’t I?

Teehee!

I love this fabric! How did you find out about this? You have the most unusual and exciting creative pursuits. Can’t wait to see it in person!

  2. Mom:

I can’t even remember where I found out about this site. I follow too many crafty blogs to keep them straight. It was probably posted in a couple different ones, too.
I probably won’t have the fabric by this weekend (they say it will probably be a couple of weeks from order to delivery, since they print everything custom), but I know you’ll get to see it sometime this summer. And any other designs I come up with (I have tons of ideas).
