After dinner, we spent some more time chatting and visiting in the shade of David and Laurie’s farmhouse.

Then several of us went to pick some cherry tomatoes and basil from the u-pick fields.
The tomatoes were beautiful and plentiful! A nice full pint of them came home with us, the makings of a week of happy snacking for Eli.
I will admit that I took more photographs of tomatoes than I picked tomatoes. Fortunately, my darling wife was more industrious. And as she is the tomato-eater in the house, I suppose it’s just as well. I may not be the best judge of what to pick, but I can find find some pretty shots.
Basil picking was another popular pastime. I waffled and ultimately decided against it, as we just don’t need that much pesto in our lives. I’m sure there are those that will argue otherwise (because, pesto!), but the large amount of pesto we made last year lasted so long, I just couldn’t imagine making any more this year.
After our fun in the fields, we headed back towards the house, past fruit-laden pear trees, for music and dancing in the dying light of dusk.

Sounds yummy and makes me want to join a CSA! What is New Orleans-style dirty rice?
Thanks, Tracy! It was all very yummy! And the CSA is wonderful, but we do get a *ton* of veggies. More than we know what to do with sometimes!
The cook who made the New Orleans-style rice described it as made with beef and traditional New Orleans seasoning (like the seasoning they use for gumbo). I don’t do that kind of cooking myself, and since I don’t eat beef I didn’t try it. But other people there said it was good.
It’s so nice that the CSA treats you like family. The corn looked sooo yummy.
Leora,
Such beautiful photographs. They make me nostalgic for summer already.
Laurie: Thank you so much! This summer was definitely worth being nostalgic for. Just wait ’til you see the pictures from the harvest festival!
