David played mandolin, a couple of the gentleman members brought their guitars, and another had a drum to provide accompaniment for folk dancing lessons.
It was fun for all ages, as parents and children alike learned a variety of dances and tried to keep up with the music. David and the other players would speed up each song just as they got the hang of the steps, gradually building momentum. Each dance eventually devolved into joyful laughter, and a small crowd formed to watch the fun.

Some of the kids who chose not to dance played together on the swingset instead. I wish the swingset would have held me, it was a lovely night for it.
As our visit drew to a close we got to spend a few minutes with one of the friendliest barn cats we’ve ever heard of. This sweet ginger tabby reminded me a bit of Mister Brown. He even let me scratch his belly (or hers, I’m not quite sure which!).
A fire waiting for s’mores. We didn’t get any this visit, as we had a long drive ahead of us. But I’m sure that many of those who visited did.
What a wonderful festival potluck and a great opportunity to build community with a lovely group of people. Over the past three years, I’ve felt so lucky that we found Big Woods Farm. They’ve been so good to us and for us. Thank you for everything, David and Laurie!

Sounds yummy and makes me want to join a CSA! What is New Orleans-style dirty rice?
Thanks, Tracy! It was all very yummy! And the CSA is wonderful, but we do get a *ton* of veggies. More than we know what to do with sometimes!
The cook who made the New Orleans-style rice described it as made with beef and traditional New Orleans seasoning (like the seasoning they use for gumbo). I don’t do that kind of cooking myself, and since I don’t eat beef I didn’t try it. But other people there said it was good.
It’s so nice that the CSA treats you like family. The corn looked sooo yummy.
Leora,
Such beautiful photographs. They make me nostalgic for summer already.
Laurie: Thank you so much! This summer was definitely worth being nostalgic for. Just wait ’til you see the pictures from the harvest festival!
